1) François Couperin and the German Rococo
‘Les Pièces de clavecin’ of François Couperin and his followers
Harpsichord music from the German Rococo - works by J.S. Bach (from ca. 1725 onwards), his sons and contempories.
In lectures we’ll discuss matters of style and estethics and the differences between the music of French composers from the time of Louis XV and that of their fellow-artists of the German rococo.
2) The mechanics of harpsichord playing: how do we best use our phalanges, fingers, hands, wrists and arms to obtain a full-fledged harpsichord technique and a wide versatility in touch and articulation?
3) Open Repertoire Participants are encouraged to bring their own choice of repertoire to be played on the instruments available for the course. There wil be at least two originals!
